Embedding of cells into hydrogel matrices

Modified heatable printhead allows printing of thickened liquids

In October 2015 first trials of embedding fibroblasts into alginate hydrogels have been performed. Based on the results of Roland Peziol's bachelor thesis, the best printable gels were chosen to be evaluated in terms of suitability with embedded cells. Furthermore, the effect of the printing process on the cellular survival was evaluated as well as the effect of the thickness of the printed gel on long time survival.
